Time-based media artist Hadeer Omar has created a contemporary response to the Al Koot Fort, which holds a unique and complex history since its construction in 1906. The artist draws upon the area surrounding the fort and uses Souq Waqif and the Msheireb district as sources of inspiration, weaving together traditional and contemporary aspects of daily life, translating and transforming them into surreal immersive environments.

The 2022 Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Project Award is a grant award of 30,000 QAR per awardee to support the initiation, further development, or completion of a photographic project. Awardees will also have the opportunities to present their work and participate in the public programme of events at the Tasweer photo festival in Spring 2023. This open call closes on the 20th of December 2021.
The 2022 Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Single Image Award is an annual award open to
photographers of all ages and degrees of experience, resident in Western Asia and North Africa, to submit a single photographic image that best represents their experience and personal narrative. Awardees will have the opportunity to have their single images presented in an online exhibition, and in a printed zine for the 2022 Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Awards. This open call closes on the 20th of December 2021.
