Time-based media artist Hadeer Omar has created a contemporary response to the Al Koot Fort, which holds a unique and complex history since its construction in 1906. The artist draws upon the area surrounding the fort and uses Souq Waqif and the Msheireb district as sources of inspiration, weaving together traditional and contemporary aspects of daily life, translating and transforming them into surreal immersive environments.

Join artist and Photo Art Qatar collective co-founder AMMAR ALQAMASH in conversation with MOHAMMED AL-HAJRI - a winner of the inaugural Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Single Image Award - to talk about the power of singular images and visual communication. This conversation is part of a series organised by the 2021 award jury and curators - Photo Art Qatar - with each of the 2021 Single Image awardees.
ABOUT MOHAMMED AL-HAJRI:
Mohammed Al-Hajri is a visual storyteller, working with photography and film. Currently based in Oman, Mohammed has focused on human stories. He has worked on the frontlines of the Syrian refugee crisis creating the multi-media project LIFE JACKET, and collaborated with international organisation NOMUHUB to document their work helping communities in Kenya.
ABOUT AMMAR ALQAMASH:
Ammar Alqamash is a Yemeni interdisciplinary artist based in Doha. Ammar is the
co-founder and the creative director of Photo Art Qatar and Photo Art Global. His
multi-faceted practice carries an investigational attitude, using expressive graphic art, time-based media, and photography.
ABOUT THE SHEIKH SAOUD AL THANI SINGLE IMAGE AWARD:
The Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Award was first announced in 2001 as a platform to support photographers. The award has now been relaunched by Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar in its inaugural year, with the Saoud bin Mohammed Al-Thani Foundation, as annual open calls to photographers in Western Asia and North Africa (WANA), continuing its journey of celebrating and nurturing photographic talent. The next Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Single Image award open call will commence in September 2021.
