A CONVERSATION WITH JAMIE HAWKESWORTH:
MONDAY, 10 MAY, 2021
8PM DOHA/6PM U.K.
Join photographer Jamie Hawkesworth in conversation with Tasweer’s Artistic Director, Charlotte Cotton, to hear about Jamie’s process of making and editing thirteen years of photographing across the United Kingdom, and the creation of his forthcoming book, published by MACK, The British Isles.
ABOUT JAMIE HAWKESWORTH:
Jamie Hawkesworth’s approach to photography is grounded in the subtle, elegiac and playful heritage of British documentary photography. He graduated from the University of Lancashire and made a series of photographs and a short film - published as a book by Dashwood in 2017 - centering on people passing through Preston Bus Station, while a member of the collective Preston is My Paris. Jamie’s editorial work has been published in Acne Paper, AnOther, Dazed & Confused, i-D, Love, The New York Times Style Magazine, Self Service, Vogue Paris, W, and the WSJ magazine. He has also created campaigns and catalogues for J.W Anderson, Loewe, and Miu Miu.
ABOUT THE BRITISH ISLES:
The British Isles is an account of thirteen years of life across the United Kingdom, as seen through the lens of Jamie Hawkesworth. These photographs chart an alternative history of this eventful period of British history - a period punctuated by austerity, referenda, celebration, and conflict. Both an historical document and an exercise in curiosity, The British Isles presents a democratising portrait of the United Kingdom. This book is published by MACK, and due to launch in June 2021.
