Join Sheikh Saoud Al Thani Project Awardee, Mohammed Elshamy in conversation with Tasweer’s Lead Graphic Designer Amal Ismail Al-Ansari as they discuss his long-term photojournalistic investigations which has led to the project "Egyptians Exiled - The Story of The New Wave of Egypt’s Diaspora". Mohammed's frequent travels exposed him to the new wave of exiled Egyptians due to the political turmoil in Egypt, which lead to the coup d’état on the 3rd of July, 2013.
ABOUT MOHAMMED ELSHAMY:
Mohammed Elshamy is an award-winning photojournalist - recipient of the Chris Hondros Award, a Magnum Foundation Fellowship, and an International Center of Photography scholarship recipient - who has worked for almost a decade in war-torn countries across Africa and the Middle East. Elshamy covered events such as the Ebola pandemic in Sierra Leone and Liberia in 2014, the 2013 military coup in Egypt, and the Europe refugee crisis in 2015 for outlets such as Almasry Alyoum, Anadolu Agency and CNN. His work has been displayed at world-renowned events in Cairo, London and New York City, including Photoville and the International Center of Photography. Currently the general manager of Qatar-based Doha News, Mohammed is simultaneously completing his masters degree in business management and sustainability studies at London’s Regents University.
