Join curator and founder of Denier, Shonagh Marshall, in conversation with Tasweer’s Artistic Director, Charlotte Cotton. Shonagh will unpack the pleasures and challenges of curating fashion and its image-making industry; writing accounts of fashion culture; and bearing witness to the factors that militate against sustainable fashion and the hope of emerging possibilities for better systems.

ABOUT SHONAGH MARSHALL:

Shonagh Marshall is a writer, curator and educator based in New York. Responsible for exhibitions Hanna Moon and Joyce Ng: English as a Second Language, Isabella Blow: Fashion Galore!, Utopian Voices, Here and Now and Hair by Sam McKnight all at Somerset House in London, she wrote and co-curated the book and exhibition Posturing which defined a new movement in contemporary fashion photography. Interested in contemporary culture, her curatorial approach is centered on the role fashion plays within it. Shonagh also writes for magazines such as System, AnOther, Vogue and The Face and holds faculty positions at the School of Visual Arts and the Fashion Institute of Technology.

ABOUT DENIER:

Denier is a bi-monthly newsletter and website (www.fashiondenier.com), founded by Shonagh that aims to encourage thought around new processes for fashion in the Antropocene Epoch. Interviewing a number of people from across the fashion industry, the conversations are framed within the boundaries of fashion’s existing relationship to the three pillars of sustainability—people, the planet and profit. Each conversation invites the reader to think about the possibility for different systems for the future.
